Here is a place for the whole family. It is a place that all school children will go to on a field trip. They have a great website at: http://www.treehill.org/.

Tree Hill is not only an nature preserve but also supports local artists including photographers, painters, musicians and much more. The Park is open to the public and worth a look see.

Castaway Island Preserve
In between the boundaries for the Southside and Arlington areas just off of San Pablo Road between Atlantic and Beach Boulevards is a somewhat new park or preserve called Castaway Island. My mom says the entrance of the park used to be an old trailer park. Now you can go and walk the nature trails, picnic and Bar B Q, put your canoe or kayak in the Intercoastal Waterway or attend one of the nature seminars at the Information Center. Like all parks in Jacksonville it is opened from Sunrise to Sunset all year long. It is a FREE park and lovely to spend a few hours or all day. Being so close to the ocean there is almost always a nice little breeze. On the nature trails there are, of course, informational signs about the wildlife in the area.
All the Jacksonville Area Preserves are nice to visit and offer some great educational opportunities for you and your children and/or grandchildren. This one is very new, very clean with sidewalks for trails as well as wooden walkways into the bush leading out to the water areas. The floating dock is well maintained and adjusts to the incoming and outgoing tides. When we went it was low tide and you can see where the water rises up. There are lots of birds and small animals in the park. Of course, you shouldn’t feed any of the animals you might see and always keep your children close to you while visiting any of the parks or preserves.

Be Prepared
The city of Jacksonville has some great information available for FREE for it’s current and future residents. You start at their website and they have links to the other sites as well. You just need to bookmark or add to your favorites list the ones that you want or all of them. Read through their materials, download their brochures and booklets but most importantly you should sign up for the Community Notification website. They are sponsored by the City of Jacksonville under their program called CODE RED. This service will phone you when an imminent threat is made known about your neighborhood. You just fill out the online form with your address and phone number and the computer will call you when an alert has been issued. Some of the issues include bad weather, bioterriosts threats, blackouts and much more. Check it out

December in Arlington
First of all, Welcome to all the new members of the Jacksonville’s Arlington Arlington Area Info Blog. We encourage all of our members to participate in any of the discussions or make suggestions on how to improve our blog. You can email me directly at: jolene.macfadden@jacksonvillesarlington.info with your subscriber ID if you want to become a “Guest Poster”. Guest posters can add new blog posts on any subject related to Jacksonville Florida’s Arlington Area. That can include information on upcoming events at your church or a group you participate with, reviews of local restaurants, parks, amusement areas, colleges, and neighborhoods or apartment complexes you live in. The point is to make this an information center for the Jacksonville Arlington Area. From our first post that will include everyone living in zip codes 32211, 32277 and 32225. I realize that covers quite a bit of area but Jacksonville is a big place and us natives still considered these zip codes part of the Arlington Area.
Forgive me if this dates me but I remember when most of the 32225 area was still woods with only a few people scattered around here and there. So, for all the newbies here in the last 10 to 15 years we encourage you to participate and tell us about your neighborhood, your schools and restaurants, etc. We would like to hear from you who still go to the Regency Square Mall. The last couple of times that we went to that mall we noticed a steady decline. If you can tell us more about that we would like to hear it.
And how about those of you who attend college at Jones College or Jacksonville University? What’s happening at your campuses? What is it like to go to college there? Are the teacher’s nice, knowledgeable? This is your chance to give us the real scoop from an everyday person’s perspective!
We look forward to hearing from you and pass this post on to your fellow Arlington area residents. Happy Holidays and BE SAFE!

Join the Scouts
For those who have children or would like to volunteer to help children you should look into the Boy and Girl Scouts of America organization. This is a great way for your children to learn about our environment, volunteerism and to have fun while doing. The Boys and Girls Councils of North Florida have lots of information on how to join and look forward to having your child become a boy or girl scout. For those who don’t have children or their children are grown it is a great opportunity to share you life learning skills with those who need it the most. Each fall the Boys and Girls Scouts starts their drive for new recruits. It is not too late just call your local council and they will be happy to help. There is a small yearly fee for each child and there will be uniform costs but each troop has various rules and some can help with some of the costs. So CALL TODAY!

New Pics of Arlington Area
We were cruising around the Arlington area recently and took some photos of our ramblings. Mostly, we traveled from the Wonderwood Expressway down Ft. Caroline Road and finished off going down University Boulevard North. The drive was a nice one as the day from bright and sunny and hadn’t gotten too warm yet. Our main goal was to get some pictures of the area to share with our subscribers and those who would like to visit the area. We have divided the pictures into groups to highlight them on the various pages as we update them.
If you have pictures of the Arlington Area both past and present and would like to share them with our readers then by all means contact us at: jolene.macfadden@jacksonvillesarlington.info with a copy of the pictures attached and a little info to go along with it. It is always nice to see various areas around the neighborhoods from your favorite park, pub or even pictures of past events. We hope you enjoy these and check out the pages as well as we will strive to get more pictures around the area!
You can see pictures on the Places to Eat page, the Parks & Recreation page, the Schools page, the Places to Live page, and the Churches page.
Cheers!
